Stanley Cup Final: Prediction, Betting Odds, Player Props for Oilers vs. Panthers

Following a hectic three rounds, the 2024 Stanley Cup Final are set between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers.

The Oilers had one of the worst starts of any team in the NHL, which resulted in them hiring head coach Kris Knoblauch in the middle of November. Edmonton opened the season at 3-9-1 and now find themselves four games away from being champions.

Florida's dominance was never in question this season with the goal of returning to the Stanley Cup Final. They rolled through the playoffs, taking out the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, and President's Trophy winning New York Rangers to earn a spot in the series.

The puck drops in the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday, June 8th. Let's dive into the series between the Oilers and Panthers by looking at each team's statistics and the odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.

All NHL odds come from FanDuel Sportsbook and may change after this article is published.

Oilers vs. Panthers Analysis

To expect anything less than a scrap in the Stanley Cup Final would be wrong at this stage of the game. With what both the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers have gone through in these playoffs, it's only right that this is a fight to the finish.

The stories for each team are simple. On one hand, it's Connor McDavid playing in his first Stanley Cup Final with a chance earn the final accolade he has yet to achieve in his NHL career. On the other side, it's the Panthers looking for redemption after their Cinderella run through the playoffs last year ended with defeat in the final round against the Vegas Golden Knights.

These teams had a lot of similarities during the regular season. Edmonton was first with 3.68 xGF/60 while the Panthers were second at 3.49 xGF/60. When it came to controlling pace, the similarities were there again with the Panthers having the upper hand at 67.88 CF/60 and the Oilers just behind with 64.89 CF/60. Ultimately, these two teams are an ideal matchup for such an important series -- which is why many believe it comes down to the stars of each team and the goaltending.

McDavid leads the playoffs with 31 points -- which is 12 more points than Panthers' leading scorer, Matthew Tkachuk. Much like Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals, McDavid is going to have to make plays that win his team games if they want to win their first Stanley Cup since 1990.

Florida will need Sergei Bobrovsky to play like the advantage he is over Stuart Skinner. He was the main reason they made the run they did last season; and he's backed that up this regular season and into the playoffs. Limiting the Oilers' attack -- especially their power play -- will be the toughest task for the Panthers from start to finish. If Bobrovsky can play the best series of his 14-year career, the Panthers will be winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

This series has storylines, stars, and history to be made no matter which team walks away with the win. It's as good as it gets for the Stanley Cup Final with either team having a solid chance to win. The Panthers have been arguably hockey's best team from start to finish this year, but the Oilers under Knoblauch have become a defensive-focused force that deserves respect. If Edmonton is able to win the series (+106), it's because McDavid delivered. This series feels like a coinflip going into Saturday, making up potentially the best Stanley Cup Finas in years.
