NHL Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper: Wednesday 2/7/24

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.

Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.

Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.

Using our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, let's take a look at today's slate to find a goalie, some stacks, and value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.

NHL DFS Picks

Goalie to Target

Petr Mrazek, Chicago Blackhawks ($6,900)

With just three games to pick from on the slate, Petr Mrazek is in the best spot tonight to be our goalie target.

Despite the many struggles of the Chicago Blackhawks this season, Mrazek has consistently been one of their bright spots. The netminder may have only 12 wins in 34 games but has posted a 2.92 goals against average and .910 save percentage in those games -- impressive numbers considering the team playing in front of him.

If he was on a playoff team, he'd be in an even better spot, and his season would look a lot better to the public eye than it may right now.

Mrazek has a nice matchup tonight against the Minnesota Wild. The Wild have had a tough time scoring, as seen by their 21st-ranked 2.91 Goals For per 60 minutes on the year. That number alone is enough to make me pretty confident in Mrazek, who should still face plenty of shots (29.52 Shots For per 60 minutes) with Minnesota going up against the bottom-tier Blackhawks defense (64.13 Corsi Against per 60 minutes).

Our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- forecast Mrazek to finish with a slate-high 18.9 FanDuel points.

Stacks

Toronto Maple Leafs

It's never a bad night to roll with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and this three-game slate pushes me in that direction.

The Maple Leafs bring one of hockey's best offenses to the ice every night, led by the NHL's leading goalscorer, Auston Matthews ($9,700). Toronto is unsurprisingly at the top of the NHL in all the important offensive categories -- including Corsi For per 60 minutes (6th, 64.14), Shots For per 60 minutes (32.53), and Goals For per 60 minutes (9th, 3.35).

Entering tonight, the Maple Leafs are tied for the best implied total at a solid 3.39, per numberFire's heat map.

Even in a matchup against a Dallas Stars team that will be tough to crack, I think the Leafs can have success. Dallas is allowing 2.98 Goals per 60 minutes, with a 58.66 Corsi Against per 60 minutes that ranks in the top half of the NHL.

But a feather in Toronto's cap today is that the Stars will be running out Scott Wedgewood in goal. Wedgewood has been rough between the pipes even though he has a 2.98 goals against average, as the save percentage sits at just .899.

When stacking the Maple Leafs, you can pair Matthews and Mitchell Marner ($8,200) or stack the second-line duo of William Nylander ($9,400) and John Tavares ($6,800). All four forwards take part on the top power-play unit.

Value Skaters

Tyler Seguin, C, Dallas Stars ($6,100)

Tyler Seguin is a top value skater for tonight's three-game slate.

While the forward may not be the same player he was a few seasons ago, Seguin is still putting together a quality campaign. Through 50 games this season, he's notched 17 goals and added 23 helpers, good for 40 points.

Seguin is riding a four-game point streak into tonight, recording five total assists over the stretch. The role has been elevated for Seguin recently, too, as he's now on the right-wing on the second line and takes part on the second power-play unit. It's a fine role for someone at this salary.

Our projections have Seguin expected to finish with 14.5 FanDuel points, making him the third-best point-per-dollar skater.

Nick Paul, W, Tampa Bay Lightning ($4,900)

Nick Paul plays on the top line for the Tampa Bay Lightning. That alone makes him a good value for this three-game slate as far as I'm concerned.

Being paired with Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov is a great role to have. Paul is not a player who records a ton of points, but he's in the position to do so on any given night thanks to who he skates alongside.

On the season, Paul has 13 goals, 14 assists, and 27 points. He's coming off a two-point game. That's the momentum that will be important against the New York Rangers in what should be a tough battle between two good teams.

Paul is projected to finish with 10.6 FanDuel points, per numberFire's model.
