NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.
Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate, find a goalie, some stacks, and some value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.
NHL DFS Picks
Goalie to Target
Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins ($7,900)
When making a DFS lineup in hockey, nailing the goalie is incredibly important. That's why tonight we're recommending Tristan Jarry to start.
It's been a rough year for the Pittsburgh Penguins overall as they enter tonight 19-15-4 and out of any playoff spot if the season ended tomorrow. Thankfully for them, it doesn't, so they need to make things count as soon as possible beginning tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers -- who are currently above them in the standings.
Jarry has been one of the consistent bright spots for the Penguins -- as can be seen by his 11.32 goals saved above expectation, ranking 11th in all of hockey. His 11-12-2 record feels unfair to what he's done between the pipes. Not only goes the goals saved above expectation work in his favor, but he's got the normal stats to back him up.
The Penguins' netminder has a 2.60 goals against average and .912 save percentage, which should be able to match up well against a Flyers offense that is quite limited.
Philadelphia places in the middle of the NHL with a 60.18 Corsi For per 60 minutes. They create enough opportunities for themselves, which should lead to a fair amount of saves for Jarry, but the Flyers aren't a team that scores many goals, averaging just 2.85 goals per 60 minutes (25th in the NHL).
numberFire's model expects Jarry to have the best night of any goalie, predicting him to finish with 20.1 FanDuel points.
Stacks
New York Rangers
The New York Rangers have been one of hockey's elite all year and will matchup against the Vancouver Canucks.
The Canucks, like the Rangers, have been great all season long, but they're a team that could allow the Rangers to have a big offensive night. New York has the 17th-ranked 60.16 Corsi For per 60 minutes but are averaging the 10th most goals per 60 minutes (3.33).
Where the Rangers will certainly be able to take advantage is on the power play. New York has the best power-play percentage in the NHL at 29.7%, and the Canucks' inability to stop power plays with a penalty kill percentage of 78.4% should only aid the Rangers' efforts.
Entering the night, New York has the best implied total of any team at 3.52, per numberFire's heat map.
Stacking the Rangers' offense should come with the top offensive duos. Mika Zibanejad ($8,400) and Chris Kreider ($7,400) along with the second line duo of Artemi Panarin ($10,300) and Vincent Trocheck ($7,000) should offer the firepower to help DFS lineups. All four skate on the top power-play unit, too.
Dallas Stars
All signs point to it being a good game for the Dallas Stars later against the Minnesota Wild.
The Stars rank 10th with a 62.61 Corsi For per 60 minutes -- creating chances continuously in their games. This has ranked fifth in goals per 60 minutes (3.52). Minnesota has confirmed that they'll be starting Marc-Andre Fleury, making for an intriguing offensive outlook for Dallas.
Fleury has a 3.07 goals against average, .896 save percentage, and rough -2.77 goals saved above expectation. While he's been good as of late, Fleury has five games on the season where he's allowed at least four goals. The upside is there in this matchup.
Dallas also trails only New York in implied team total (3.47) this evening.
The Stars have such a complete offense as they stretch out their talent across their top three lines. It not only offers value for stacking their lineup but leads us to focus on specific players throughout. The first line duo of Jason Robertson ($8,200) and Roope Hintz ($7,200) will be the best bet for offensive delivery. We'd also consider Joe Pavelski ($7,500) and Jamie Benn ($5,100), who are paired on the third line but are also on the primary power play for Dallas.
Value Skaters
Matthew Boldy, W, Minnesota Wild ($6,400)
As a first-line winger, Matthew Boldy has taken on a big role for the Minnesota Wild and is a good value skater for tonight's slate.
Boldy is averaging 2.74 shots per game to go with his 13 goals, 11 assists, and 24 points over 31 games. His role features an average of 18:11 time on ice due to being on the first line and the top power-play unit, giving him all the tools to put together some offensive numbers against the Stars.
He's coming off a three-point effort in his last game, meaning he has momentum on his side to stay hot.
numberFire's model is projecting Boldy to finish with an impressive 14.1 FanDuel points.
Filip Hronek, D, Vancouver Canucks ($5,600)
Selecting a defender isn't usually our go to for value skaters, but when you play such an important role in an offense like the Vancouver Canucks, it can lead to some strong numbers on the backend.
That, of course, comes with Filip Hronek, who is paired with Quinn Hughes as one of the top defensive pairings in the league. Hronek plays to an elite level, posting an average of 23:47 time on ice so far this season. Through 39 games, he's been able to record just 2 goals but has added 28 assists for 30 total points.
In what could be a big offensive game between Vancouver and the New York Rangers, Hronek's role could be a major one where he adds important points to DFS lineups.
Hronek is projected to finish with 12.8 FanDuel points, per numberFire's model.
