NHL Daily Fantasy Helper: Tuesday 10/24/23

NHL DFS is similar to MLB in terms of how you build lineups, how you view stacking, and how to value players.
Two main points to always focus on in NHL DFS are what lines the players are on and making sure the goalies you are rostering are confirmed as the starters.
Two of the best resources for that are LeftWingLock.com and DailyFaceOff.com. That is where you can find updated forward and power-play lines for each team, along with which goalies are confirmed as the starters.
Let's jump in and take a look at today's slate, find a goalie, some stacks, and some value plays for your NHL DFS lineups on FanDuel.
Goalie to Target
Juuse Saros, Predators ($7,200)
Juuse Saros has already played six games this season, and he was excellent in his last start on Saturday. He stopped 31 of 32 shots and helped the Nashville Predators win. Saros comes in at a huge bargain considering his pedigree as one of the NHL's top goaltenders.
Over the past three seasons, Saros has the third-most goals saved above expected in the NHL. He was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy in 2022.
Even with this resume and the Nashville Predators being home favorites, we still get Saros at just $7,200. He'll face a Vancouver Canucks' team that is in the bottom 10 in expected goals per 60 minutes.
If you're trying to save salary at fantasy hockey's most random position, Saros is the best bet.
Stacks
Florida Panthers
It hasn't been a flying start for the Florida Panthers coming off of their Eastern Conference Championship.
They're just 2-3-0 and have injuries on defense that are hurting them. Their top line has been clicking, however, and the players have affordable salaries.
Aleksander Barkov ($6,700) remains at too low of a salary and has produced fairly well with six points in five games. He's been good at setting up his linemates Sam Reinhart ($7,200) and Evan Rodrigues ($5,800). They have combined for 8 goals and 15 points.
This trio all plays together on Florida's first power-play unit. This line stack omits the team's best player in Matthew Tkachuk ($8,900), but his salary is much higher, and the correlation isn't perfect.
The Panthers will face the San Jose Sharks at home tonight. San Jose has yet to win a game and has allowed 20 goals in the five games they've played this season. They've also conceded the third-most expected goals per 60 minutes this season.
Florida has the highest implied team total (3.88 goals) on the slate tonight, and their top line is relatively easy to fit into lineups together.
Detroit Red Wings
Do you want the opportunity to play the NHL's two leading scorers, who happen to be teammates? No, it's not Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. It's Alex DeBrincat ($8,800) and Dylan Larkin ($7,800).
The Detroit Red Wings made the move to bring local kid DeBrincat in and have paired him with the other hometown hero in Larkin. People have said that DeBrincat wouldn't reach the same heights that he did with the Chicago Blackhawks when playing with Patrick Kane, but he's seemed to have found chemistry with Larkin.
DeBrincat has eight goals in his first six games with the Wings, leading the NHL. Larkin is second behind him in points with 11. You can also balance out the average salary of these two by playing their third linemate, Lucas Raymond ($4,400), and a defenseman who gets power-play time with them in Shayne Gostisbehere ($4,400).
Detroit is at home to the Seattle Kraken tonight. Seattle ranks in the bottom half in most defensive metrics, including allowing the 10th-most goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five.
The Wings' top line is clicking, and there's nothing in this matchup to suggest they should slow down.
Winnipeg Jets
On a slate this large, we want to correlate some players in the middle salary tier and then either fit in another stack or add in some studs as one-off pieces.
Stacking the Winnipeg Jets' top line gives us the ability to do just that. Mark Scheifele ($6,100) scored 42 goals last season and has 4 in five games this season, yet is only $6,100. Kyle Connor ($6,400) is second in goals among left wings since the start of the 2019 season, has five points in five games to start this year, and is low-salaried, as well.
Add in newcomer Alex Iafallo ($4,100), who will play on the top line and first power play with them, and you get a full line that's a great value.
They don't have a particularly tough matchup, either. Winnipeg is hosting the St. Louis Blues, who have allowed the most shot attempts per 60 minutes at five-on-five in the NHL.
Winnipeg's implied team total of 3.63 goals is fifth among the 26 teams on the slate, and you get to play their dangerous top line for a pretty nice discount.
Value Skaters
Quinton Byfield, W, Kings ($3,400)
The second overall pick in the 2020 draft, Quinton Byfield has been labeled a bust by some who haven't understood the circumstances and injuries he's dealt with.
He's now getting a chance to play on the top line for the Los Angeles Kings, alongside studs like Adrian Kempe and Anze Kopitar. He's not on the power play with them but does see time on the second unit.
With the Kings carrying the fourth-highest team total tonight (3.66), getting a low-salary piece of their attack is a nice play if you need it.
Calen Addison, D, Wild ($3,700)
If you are looking for a value on defense, Calen Addison is your man. The Minnesota Wild blueliner will take his spot on the top power play in a fairly good matchup.
The Wild are at home against the Edmonton Oilers without Connor McDavid. Edmonton has allowed the fourth-most goals per game so far at 3.95.
Minnesota's power play has been respectable so far at 20% and has talented players like Kirill Kaprizov and Mats Zuccarello on it. There aren't a lot of defensemen on the first power play below $4,000, so Addison is one of the best values at his position.
