FanDuel Single-Game DFS Football Helper: Divisional Round Sunday (Chiefs at Bills)
The Kansas City Chiefs will be in unfamiliar territory on Sunday, taking on the Buffalo Bills as the road team in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. The Bills are 2.5-point favorites in this highly anticipated AFC matchup, and the over/under is set at 45.5, per the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
For those unfamiliar, single-game slates feature five flex spots with identical scoring to the main slate. However, kickers are included in these contests, and there is an "MVP" roster slot. The MVP receives 1.5 times his total fantasy points, making this spot crucial.
FanDuel Research's Brandon Gdula has done a deep dive on single-game strategy, and numberFire has projections if you select the game from the slate tab. It's worth checking out both before making your lineups.
NFL DFS Single-Game Picks
MVP Candidates
Josh Allen ($17,500) -- Josh Allen leads all quarterbacks with 24.67 FanDuel points per game, and his rushing usage gives him a safe floor along with big-time upside. The former first-round pick has recorded 21-plus FanDuel points in 14 of his 18 games, including 33.52 FanDuel points in last week's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. While the Chiefs have a strong defense, they are 32nd in rushing defense success rate (58.5%) against quarterbacks, via NextGenStats. Allen leads all quarterbacks with 16 rushing touchdowns, and he paced the Bills with a 30.2% red-zone rushing share.
Patrick Mahomes ($15,000) -- Despite not having a reliable arsenal of weapons, Patrick Mahomes threw for 262 yards and a touchdown for 18.58 FanDuel points in an ugly weather game against the Miami Dolphins last week. A ceiling game seems less likely than previous years, but this is Mahomes we're talking about. The reigning Super Bowl MVP led all quarterbacks in expected completion percentage (68.9%), and the Bills are 15th in completion percentage over expected allowed to quarterbacks. Even with a lack of viable pass catchers, Mahomes has produced a solid 18.39 FanDuel points per game, and there is the narrative of him playing his first career road playoff game that he'd surely like to end.
Isiah Pacheco ($13,500) -- With Jerick McKinnon sidelined, Isiah Pacheco has seized full control of Kansas City's backfield. If you remove the Week 18 contest where he sat out, Pacheco leads running backs on the Chiefs in red-zone rushing share (81.3%), snap share (72.2%), route participation (56%), and FanDuel points per game (19) since Week 12. Teams have been able to run the ball effectively against the Bills as Buffalo has surrendered the 10th-most rushing yards over expected per attempt (0.35). Considering Pacheco is a safe bet for volume, he's an enticing option in the MVP spot and won't be as popular as the QBs are.
Rashee Rice ($12,500) -- What a world we live in where Rashee Rice boasts a higher salary than Travis Kelce -- and it feels justified. The first-year receiver has emerged as the go-to target for Mahomes down the stretch. Since Rice began receiving a snap share of 65.7% or higher in Week 12, he leads the Chiefs in target share (28.6%), air yards share (23.5%), yards per route run (2.87), and red-zone target share (31%). The Bills are 30th in rushing yards over expected (37.2) and 32nd in rushing expected points added (8.75) to wide receivers, which is noteworthy against a receiver like Rice who excels after the catch.
Flex Breakdown
Stefon Diggs ($14,000) -- Gone are the days -- at least for this season -- where we can confidently plug-and-play Stefon Diggs in our lineups. The All-Pro wideout hasn't registered 100-plus receiving yards since Week 6. That being said, Diggs still manages to pace the Bills in target share (29.3%), air yards share (35.5%), yards per route run (2.12), and red-zone target share (24.6%). The Bills can't afford to not lean on Diggs in the passing game, especially if Gabriel Davis is unable to play for a second straight week. Diggs has garnered fewer than eight targets just twice in his last eight games, so his volume is enough to make him worthy of a flex play.
Travis Kelce ($11,500) -- Even though Kelce has shown signs of slowing down, this is a perfect week for him to bounce back. Buffalo's defense is 21st in receptions allowed (89), 26th in target rate (19.9%), and 20th in yards per route run (1.35) to tight ends. On top of that, the Bills have been plagued by injuries at the linebacker and safety positions. Back in Week 14 against the Bills, Kelce tallied six receptions for 83 yards on 10 targets. This could be the lowest salary we see Kelce at in a single-game contest if the Chiefs advance beyond the Divisional Round.
Dalton Kincaid ($10,000) -- It has been an up-and-down season for Dalton Kincaid in his rookie campaign. Kincaid has logged the second-highest target share (18.8%) and the third-most yards per route run (1.87) on the Bills entering Sunday's matchup. Even with Dawson Knox active in the last two weeks, Kincaid owns the second-highest target share (20.9%), the second-highest air yards share (26%), the second-highest average depth of target (10.3), and the most yards per route run (2.92) on the Bills in that span. The young tight end has posted six-plus targets in three consecutive games, and that volume is tough to find at this salary.
Khalil Shakir ($9,000) -- Gabriel Davis didn't practice again on Thursday for the Bills, which isn't a good sign for his availability for Sunday's vital contest. If Davis is ruled out for a second straight game, Khalil Shakir should continue seeing an expanded role in the aerial attack. Shakir had the second-highest route participation (87.5%) in Buffalo's offense in the Wild Card Round. The second-year receiver made the most of his increased usage by notching three receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown. With Diggs not being the same in months, there's a path for Shakir to be the leading receiver for the Bills on Sunday if Davis is inactive.
