Pitcher Breakdown

What Tuesday's slate lacks in a true ace it makes up for with an abundance of quality arms. But Pablo Lopez ($10,000) is rolling, so I'll be hard-pressed to pass on him against the struggling Chicago Cubs.

Lopez's results have been inconsistent, but his 3.26 SIERA and 3.23 xFIP still suggest he's pitched well. The righty has a strong 27.8% K% on the year and has induced 14 whiffs per game over his last four appearances. He's averaging 39 FanDuel points per game (FPPG) in that stretch -- a trend that could continue against a Cubs side that has a 23.6% K% and 98 wRC+ against righties since June 1st. A slate-low 6.5 run total and 20 mph winds blowing in offer a high floor at the very least.

Based on our MLB DFS projections, Luis Castillo ($9,700) is the pitcher to target tonight. He's our highest-projected arm (37.5 FPs) and the best point-per-dollar value at the position (3.87 FPs per $1,000). Castillo owns a 3.91 SIERA and 23.3% K% on the year, and he's rattled off five consecutive quality starts. He draws a Detroit Tigers lineup that has the third-lowest wRC+ (84) against righties over the last two months.

Others to Consider

  • Sonny Gray ($10,400 vs. TB) - Sonny boasts the slate's highest salary in a home matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays. Gray is top five in SIERA (2.94) and K% (30.8%) among qualified pitchers, and he's averaging 37.3 FPPG on the year. That'll play against a Rays team that's struck out at the sixth-highest clip (25.1%) in this split since June 1st.
  • Luis Gil ($10,200 vs. LAA) - Early roster rate projections from across the industry don't expect Gil to be as heavily rostered as his five-figure counterparts, but a date with the Los Angeles Angels makes him worth considering. Since June 1st, LA has the seventh-lowest wRC+ (91) and a league-average K% (22.4%) against righties. Meanwhile, Gil (3.91 SIERA; 28.5% K%) has gotten back on track of late, averaging 40.3 FanDuel points over his last four starts. Rain could be a factor here -- something to keep in mind ahead of their 7:05 pm ET first pitch.
