College Basketball Betting Picks for Sunday 12/17/23
The college basketball season always provides a flurry of twists and turns that few saw coming -- especially when March Madness comes around. This can make college basketball one of the most challenging sports to bet on.
Fortunately, we have plenty of tools available that can aid our chances of taking the most favorable college basketball bets. Bart Torvik and KenPom are excellent sources that give insights into team-level efficiency, and Sports Reference provides a wide range of useful team stats, as well.
Let's check out FanDuel Sportsbook's college basketball odds and select some of the best bets of the day by utilizing the mentioned tools.

College Basketball Best Bets
USC Trojans at Auburn Tigers
Trojans +8.5 (-105)
By far, the most entertaining game on Sunday's docket is in Alabama.
The USC Trojans are traveling to visit the Auburn Tigers, and of course, this is the second collegiate game for Bronny James, the son of LeBron James. It's unknown if James will start or come off the bench, but I'm guessing the latter considering he posted just 4 points in 17 minutes easing his way back from the unfortunate heart condition he suffered earlier this year.
Make no mistake that, in the long run, James was a four-star recruit that'll mean quite a bit to a USC team that, through analytical rankings like Bart Torvik (30th) and KenPom (40th) is already well-positioned for a tournament bid. Any team getting this high-caliber a freshman back in the lineup should see a noted boost.
With that in mind, it's interesting that analytical models like Bart Torvik (7.4 points), DRatings (8.0 points), and numberFire's model (7.8 points) all see a bit of value on this spread compared to the 8.5-point mark at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Regardless of how large a lift James gives them moving forward, the Trojans seem like the move as a contrarian fade of the Tigers. 74% of the money is backing Auburn at FanDuel.
Nebraska Cornhuskers at Kansas State Wildcats
Under 150.5 (-110)
We'll see if Nebraska's 8-2 start merits a victory away from home for the first time all season today.
The Cornhuskers' lone road contest was a loss to Minnesota, which saw them only post 65 total points and shoot 27.8% from deep. At home, Kansas State has Bart Torvik's 59th-ranked overall defense, and KenPom has them 44th in defensive efficiency. By all accounts, this is an even stiffer matchup than the Golden Gophers -- outside the top 95 on both sites -- were.
K-State hasn't exactly been an offensive juggernaut, either. They've posted 75 or fewer points in three straight games and rank 61st in offensive efficiency, per Bart Torvik. The Huskers are 41st in defensive efficiency; it's why they might be not getting enough credit as 4.5-point road underdogs to travel well.
Regardless of outcome, this total seems too high. DRatings has this total at 146.1, and numberFire's model (137.5) has it significantly lower than that.
