4 FanDuel Stacks to Target on Wild Card Weekend
Stacking in daily fantasy football on FanDuel is a key strategy and a way to shoot for upside. There are a few different ways to correlate lineups that can help us maximize our ceiling.
The classic stack is a quarterback with one of his pass-catchers. Sometimes, it makes sense to use two pass catchers with their signal-caller, especially when the target share is concentrated around two players.
In other situations, we can pair a running back and a defense on the same team. This makes sense when a team is a huge favorite and expected to dominate, which can lead to carries for the back and chances for sacks and turnovers for the D/ST. We also can look to deploy a game stack -- rostering a QB, one of his pass-catchers, and a pass-catcher from the other team. Game stacks can work best in matchups that have high totals and close spreads.
Our Brandon Gdula did a study on stacking that is worth checking out before you make your lineups.
Here are four of the best stacks to zero in on in NFL DFS for the Saturday and Sunday games on Wild Card Weekend.
NFL DFS Stacks
Dallas Cowboys
Dak Prescott ($8,600) and CeeDee Lamb ($10,000)
We'll start with an obvious stack that has paid off a lot in recent weeks.
If you played Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb in Week 18, you likely had a pretty good lineup. Dak had four touchdowns and 26.16 FanDuel points while Lamb had 13 catches, 98 yards, and two touchdowns.
This just continued a trend of dominance for these two all season long. Prescott finished as the QB3 in fantasy while Lamb had the most half-PPR points of any receiver.
That Week 18 eruption was in a matchup against one of the worst pass defenses in the Washington Commanders. The matchup isn't quite that good this time, but it's still a favorable one.
Dallas is playing the Green Bay Packers at home on Sunday. Green Bay ranked 20th against the pass in numberFire's metrics. They also were 24th in adjusted fantasy points allowed per drop back to quarterbacks.
The Cowboys have the highest implied team total of any team this weekend, sitting at 29 points. This stack has been delivering all year and should continue to do so during the playoffs.
Los Angeles Rams
Matthew Stafford ($7,400), Puka Nacua ($8,000), and Cooper Kupp ($7,500)
The Los Angeles Rams were not expected to make the playoffs after last season's disaster, but they managed to pull things together and get back to the postseason.
One of the keys to their season was Puka Nacua emerging as a rookie wide receiver. Nacua came in as a fifth-round rookie and was very successful when Cooper Kupp was injured for the first four games. The two then formed a dynamic duo for the Rams.
Kupp and Nacua combined for a 53% target share and 59% of the team's air yards after Week 4. They helped Matthew Stafford have a stellar end to the season.
Stafford went scorched earth for a bit to close the year. He was the QB4 by points per game from Weeks 12 to 16. Those games largely were against weak passing defenses, and he'll face another one this week.
The Rams will play the Detroit Lions in Stafford's return to Detroit. The Lions' pass defense was the fourth-worst in numberFire's metrics. They also were 26th in adjusted fantasy points per target allowed to receivers.
Despite being underdogs, LA has the fourth-highest implied team total on the entire weekend. This game benefits from being indoors and will avoid some of the ugly weather we might see around the league.
Detroit Lions
Jared Goff ($7,700) and Amon-Ra St. Brown ($9,000)
This is another stack that finished the season strong in Week 18 and could carry things over to the playoffs.
Jared Goff has many detractors but is perfectly acceptable as both a real-life and fantasy QB when in the right situation. With this Lions team, he has an elite offensive line, some great weapons to throw to, and a running game he can use. This led to him finishing with the seventh-most fantasy points for QBs.
The best weapon he can target is Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Sun God saw 29% of the targets in games he played this season, and he turned that into the third-most fantasy points for any receiver.
This game could be the best game environment of any game during Wild Card Weekend. With a 51.5-point total and a tight 3.5-point spread, this game should see a lot of fantasy points. It makes sense to get pieces of both sides, and this is likely the best way to get a piece of Detroit.
Cleveland Browns
Joe Flacco ($7,800) and Amari Cooper ($7,500)
Who would have thought before the season that Joe Flacco would be starting a playoff game and that we would have interest in him in DFS?
Well, that became an option when Flacco started playing great down the stretch for the Cleveland Browns. He finished the season averaging the third-most fantasy points per game for any QB.
His best game was against these Houston Texans in Week 16. He threw for 368 yards and three scores, good for 26.8 fantasy points. It was one of three games in which he recorded three touchdowns out of his five starts.
Amari Cooper also had a career game against Houston in Week 16. He caught 11 passes for 265 yards and two TDs in that game. Since Flacco took over at QB, Cooper had a 25% target share and saw 38% of the team's air yards.
Cleveland is favored on the road against the Texans. Houston is average in pass defense but allowed the fourth-most adjusted fantasy points per target to receivers.
This stack may go under the radar a bit, and Flacco's salary is a bit elevated beyond where people would probably be comfortable clicking on him. That would keep this stack's popularity down, but we've seen that it has enough upside to warrant consideration.
