3 NHL Player Prop Bets to Target on Thursday 1/4/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing numberFire's projections as a guide, here are some NHL player props bets that look appealing via the NHL odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Trevor Moore

To Score a Goal (+210)

The Los Angeles Kings have a 3.68 implied goal total against the Detroit Red Wings and need a bounceback game tonight.

A three-game losing streak is actually rare for the Kings, who have been one of the strongest teams in the league this season. They have a soft matchup against the Red Wings, and it should allow them to get back on track.

Since the start of December, the Red Wings are allowing 3.80 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the worst in the league. Add in the fact they allow the fourth-most (65.23) Total Shot Attempts in the same situations over the same time, and they are one of the worst defenses in the league.

We'll turn to Trevor Moore, who leads the Kings with 17 goals and tied for the team lead with 108 shots on goal this season.

His role on the first forward line and the second power-play unit have put him in a spot to be their primary scorer this season, and with just one goal in his last four games, he's primed to get the offense going against a weak defense.

Artemi Panarin

Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-114)

A slate-high 4.16 implied goal total put the New York Rangers at the top of the list for offense tonight.

A matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks puts any team in a great spot, and it opens up a ton of value in the player prop market.

Whether we look at the last month or the entire season, the Blackhawks are in the bottom five of the league for Total Shot Attempts Allowed and Goals Allowed, both per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

This leads us to Artemi Panarin, who is on fire this season with 23 goals, 28 assists, and 147 shots on goal through 36 games. An average of 4.1 shots on goal per game puts him among the best in the league and offers a high level of consistency on a nightly basis.

He's been over this mark in five of his last 10 games and coming off a game where he had just two shots on goal, so a bounceback performance versus a weak defense is on tap tonight.

Nino Niederreiter

Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+120)

Whenever the San Jose Sharks are on the slate, we look to the opposing team, and tonight that is the Winnipeg Jets.

The Sharks are borderline historically bad this season and are right alongside the Blackhawks for being one of the worst defensive teams in the league. They also sit among the bottom five in Total Shot Attempts Allowed and Goals Allowed per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations.

For the Jets, they have picked up their offense over the last month and are generating 64.47 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fifth-best in the league over that time.

It's no surprise we see a 3.87 implied goal total for the Jets tonight, so we'll look to Nino Niederreiter for some shots on goal.

He's on the third forward line and the second power-play unit, which has allowed him to go over this prop in six of his last 10 games, a rate he should be able to continue tonight versus the Sharks.
