3 MLB Prop Bets to Target on Wednesday 5/1/24

Player props can be useful in a variety of ways -- from taking advantage of them straight up to measuring a player's potential to produce in daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel. Here, we're going to focus on the former.

Utilizing our projections -- which are powered by numberFire -- as a guide, here are some MLB player props bets that look appealing via the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

MLB Prop Bets

Gunnar Henderson to Record 2+ Total Bases (-105)

The Baltimore Orioles have a good matchup against the New York Yankees and their starter Luis Gil tonight. Gil hasn't been a starter to shy away from when looking at the offense he's opposing. He has had a fine start to his campaign, but a 4.23 SIERA isn't anything to celebrate.

Maybe the most eye-popping stat so far in Gil's performance this season is a 46.2% fly-ball rate -- meaning opposing hitters have a great chance of earning themselves extra bases and more when making contact. He also has a 1.34 WHIP and 4.13 expected FIP (xFIP), so the Orioles should be able to make noise tonight.

numberFire's heat map agrees, as Baltimore enters tonight with a solid 4.63 implied total against Gill and New York.

The hitter to take tonight is Gunnar Henderson. While he's the reigning AL Rookie of the Year, the shortstop has taken a major leap in his sophomore season in seemingly every department.

Henderson has an insane 48.2% hard-hit rate to go with a strong 38.8% fly-ball rate, making him one of the more dangerous hitters in the majors. To go along with his great batted-ball rates are his overall stats. The 22-year-old is sporting a .417 wOBA, .291 batting average, .333 ISO, .624 SLG, and a 175 wRC+. Henderson also has 16 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs.

With the matchup against Gil, Henderson should be able to mash tonight on his way to Record 2+ Total Bases (-105).

Luis Arraez to Record 2+ Hits (+135)

When looking for a two-hit night tonight, look no further than two-time batting title winner Luis Arraez.

Arraez isn't hitting over .300 right now, but he's sitting at .299 and can get there tonight with the way he swings the bat. The second baseman also has a .325 wOBA and 38 hits overall. So far this season, he has 11 multi-hit games. He had 55 of them last season.

The Miami Marlins have a great matchup against the Colorado Rockies, entering tonight with a 4.32 implied total.

Colorado will start Dakota Hudson, who hasn't had the best first five starts, to say the least. Hudson has a 6.57 ERA, 5.36 SIERA, and 5.27 FIP, and he has allowed 29 hits in 24 2/3 innings. Mix that in with a 36.5% hard-hit rate, and it sets up for a good night for Miami.

Take Arraez to Record 2+ Hits (+135) with confidence.

Yordan Alvarez to Record an RBI (+105)

The Houston Astros are getting Triston McKenzie tonight when they play the Cleveland Guardians. That should set them up for a great night of offense.

McKenzie has not been able to figure things out this season. He's pitched 22 innings and enters tonight with a 6.00 SIERA, 5.62 FIP, and 1.23 HR/9 allowed. The righty also has given up a rough 53.0% fly-ball rate while failing to strike out batters (17.6% rate).

I like Yordan Alvarez to Record an RBI (+105) against McKenzie with his role playing a big part. The Astros have one of the best implied totals of the day at 4.71, setting Alvarez up for success.

It hasn't been the best start to Alvarez's 2024 season, but he should still be able to get the job done. Alvarez has a .351 wOBA that is far lower than his .440 expected wOBA (xwOBA), meaning that success should be on his way any time now. The designated hitter has driven in 18 RBIs. Adding one more shouldn't be a problem for him against the poor-pitching McKenzie.
