3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays to Target on Thursday 6/8/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some low-salary players to target on FanDuel for tonight's main slate.

Reid Detmers, SP, Angels ($7,100)

Let's get this out of the way at the jump -- it's not a great night to roll the dice on a low-salary arm. Spencer Strider ($11,400) is on the slate, and Zack Wheeler ($10,800) has a dream matchup. The safe route is making room for one of those two.

But if you want to get a little weird, Reid Detmers is fairly appealing.

For the year, Detmers owns a 26.4% strikeout rate and 13.8% swinging-strike rate. That's pretty nice strikeout juice for a pitcher who is this low in salary.

The matchup is there, too, as the southpaw gets a home date with the Chicago Cubs. Chicago has some pop but also strikes out 25.4% of the time in the split, the sixth-highest clip.

There's definitely risk in straying away from Strider and Wheeler, but Detmers is a viable value play who will let you go nuts with your bats.

Jo Adell, OF, Angels ($2,500)

Another Angel.

Jo Adell has been recalled, and I'm intrigued by him in a matchup with left-hander Drew Smyly.

Once a top prospect, Adell hasn't been able to deliver the goods at the big-league level, but he might have found something in Triple-A this year. Across 242 plate appearances, Adell put up a .399 wOBA and 18 homers with a 46.8% fly-ball rate. The strikeout issues are still there (29.3%), but Smyly helps in that regard as he has just a 20.5% strikeout rate versus righties.

The Los Angeles Angels have the night's top implied total (4.75) as of Thursday morning, and Adell is an economical way to get exposure to the Halos.

Triston Casas, 1B, Red Sox ($2,600)

The Boston Red Sox are in a good spot versus right-hander Aaron Civale.

Civale has just a 17.1% strikeout rate and 7.9% swinging-strike rate over a small sample this year, and lefties got to him for 1.44 homers per nine in 2022.

Enter Triston Casas.

The left-handed hitting Casas has a 45.9% fly-ball rate with the platoon advantage and gets you access to a Boston lineup that could do plenty of damage against Civale.
