3 MLB FanDuel Value Plays for Friday 8/11/23

Finding low-salary production is one way to get a leg up on the competition in MLB DFS.

Here are some value plays to target on FanDuel for today's main slate.

Advanced statistics courtesy of FanGraphs.

Charlie Morton, P, New York Mets ($8,500)

If you're looking to save salary in DFS today, Charlie Morton offers some upside on the pitching side as a real value.

This season hasn't been Morton's best, but he's remained a solid member of the rotation for the Atlanta Braves, posting numbers that are certainly respectable. The right-hander's ERA currently sits at 3.86 -- an improvement from last season -- while also commanding a 4.09 FIP and a 24.3% strikeout rate.

Those are all numbers that make Morton a guy worth considering today against the New York Mets.

Over the last 30 days, the Mets haven't been all too good, and that shouldn't surprise anyone based on how their season has gone. New York has a .298 wOBA in those last 30 days, which ranks 26th in the majors. They have been able to limit striking out (21.5% rate) but are just 20th in both home runs (29) and ISO (.162).

numberFire's model has Morton projected to finish with 31.9 FanDuel points on tonight's slate.

William Contreras, C, Milwaukee Brewers ($3,000)

On the offensive side of things, William Contreras has a good matchup tonight and should be able to take advantage.

Contreras has had a relatively good first season with the Milwaukee Brewers as he's rocking a .345 wOBA, 117 wRC+, and .175 ISO while already recording a career-high in RBIs with 51.

He's been swinging a hot bat in the second half, which is why you should be rolling with him today as a quality value. The second half for Contreras includes a .860 OPS and 129 wRC+ through 25 games. The way he's been riding, it should make for a good day today.

While Contreras often has his way against lefties better than righties, a matchup against Michael Kopech should alert DFS players that many of the Brewers should be considered. The Chicago White Sox' starter has a sky-high 5.10 skill-interactive ERA (SIERA) and 6.20 FIP. Not great.

Contreras slots in as a quality pick as numberFire has him projected for 12.8 FanDuel points.

Wilmer Flores, 1B/3B/2B, San Francisco Giants ($2,800)

The San Francisco Giants may not put up huge offensive numbers, but one thing consistent about their offense is the bat of Wilmer Flores.

Flores is in the midst of the best offensive campaign of his career. Through 84 games, Flores has 15 home runs, a .239 ISO, and a stunning .911 OPS.

For Flores, it gets even better when you look at his second-half output. The Giants' infielder has a .380 batting average in his last 22 games with 7 home runs -- just one fewer than what he had in the first half. His advanced stats are right there with the surface ones as his second-half 1.179 OPS, .367 ISO, .485 wOBA, and 213 wRC+ are all out-of-this-world level.

It's to go against him as a value on this slate.

Texas Rangers starter Jon Gray has been good this season but isn't as difficult of a matchup as his ERA says it is. With a 3.72 ERA, Gray has been a respectable pitcher for the Rangers. But his 4.26 FIP and 4.63 SIERA are rather high numbers -- ones that should allow Flores and the Giants to figure things out. Gray's 20.3% strikeout rate isn't anything to worry about, either.

Fire up Flores as one of the top values of the slate as numberFire's model has him going for 12.0 FanDuel points.
