3 MLB FanDuel Studs to Target for Tuesday 6/13/23
In daily fantasy baseball on FanDuel, finding and utilizing productive high-salary players is integral to building a successful lineup.
In terms of hitters, we're looking for individuals with big numbers, favorable matchups, and fellow players around them who are likely to produce, as well, increasing our chances for runs and RBI. For pitchers, we want high strikeout totals. Still, the ability to labor deep into a game while earning a win is also valuable.
With high-salary picks playing such a crucial role in your lineup, you can't afford to miss on these guys, so let's take a look at a few top high-salary plays for today's main slate.
Remember, the schedule features 15 games on Tuesday. That means everyone is in action.
Tony Gonsolin, SP, Los Angeles Dodgers ($8,100)
On the hill Tuesday night for the Los Angeles Dodgers will be Tony Gonsolin (3-1). He'll have the luxury of pitching at home against a Chicago White Sox team that is struggling.
So far in 2023, Gonsolin hasn't lived up to his 2022 output, with his strikeout rate down to just 18.1% after he posted a 23.9% strikeout rate and 3.74 SIERA a year ago. But Gonsolin has been throwing the ball better in recent contests, earning wins in three of his past five outings, and he'll have another good shot to get a win today with LA a -200 moneyline favorite, per the MLB odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.
Headed into his ninth start of the season, Gonsolin will have a chance to improve his numbers and get back on track in a friendly date with the White Sox, who have issues on offense.
Chicago is collectively batting .237 in 2023, which lands them in the bottom eight among all teams. Also, the Chi-Sox lead MLB in ground-outs versus air-outs (GO/AO) ratio at 1.12. Ultimately, that is something that can lead to frequent double-plays and runners left on base.
At Chavez Ravine, Gonsolin seems poised for a productive night in a favorable matchup. Worth noting: the White Sox have an implied run total of 3.45, which is the fourth-lowest on Tuesday's main slate.
Randy Arozarena, OF, Tampa Bay Rays ($3,900)
Quickly becoming one of the faces of Major League Baseball, Randy Arozarena is a dynamic hitter and fielder. After a fantastic World Baseball Classic in March, the 2020 ALCS MVP is still playing great ball in 2023. Largely, he and his Tampa Bay Rays have been one of the most prevalent storylines this season.
On Tuesday, the Rays are set for their second game visiting the Oakland Athletics. Yesterday at the Oakland Coliseum, Arozarena was 1 for 3 with a double in a 4-3 loss, but I think we can expect more from him tonight against Oakland rookie Hogan Harris.
Arozarena has a fantasy projection of 13.9 FanDuel points, per numberFire, for Tuesday's contest, which is sixth-best among all batters. Currently, his OPS is an impressive .897, which lands him within the top 15 of all Major Leaguers this season.
Admittedly, the A's are somehow hot right now, winning six consecutive games. Oakland also plans to have 20,000-plus people in attendance (organized fan protest against the Athletics' possible relocation) on Tuesday.
Arozarena always seems to love the bright lights and big crowds, though, and he can feast in this matchup with Harris.
Fernando Tatis Jr., OF/SS, San Diego Padres ($4,500)
The 2023 season has not gone according to plan for Fernando Tatis Jr. and the San Diego Padres thus far. They currently sit in fourth place in the NL West despite having the highest payroll in the division (and third-highest in the Majors). Still, the Friars have begun to play better of late, and Tatis has largely been their most consistent offensive player since rejoining the team.
Tatis and company will be back at Petco Park on Tuesday to take on the Cleveland Guardians. numberFire projects "El Niño" (14.1) as the fourth-best batter of the night, and when you consider the players hitting around him (Juan Soto, Manny Machado, etc.), you can feel good about Tatis filling up the stat sheet.
Even better: Tatis is currently striking out at a career-low rate of 18.3%. Expect him to put the ball in play and utilize his speed.
Through 45 games in 2023, Tatis has a weighted on-base average (wOBA) of .361. Additionally, he leads his club in home runs (12) despite missing the first portion of the season. He's also stolen eight bases this season and is a top-shelf power-speed threat in DFS each and every night.
Tatis and San Diego will be facing rookie Guardian pitcher Tanner Bibee. Making his ninth career start, Bibee has been pretty good early on, but with a 4.14 SIERA and 46.3% fly-ball rate, he's certainly not someone we need to avoid.
