Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.
This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.
The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out numberFire's daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.
Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Implied Total: 5.55 | Opposing Pitcher: Hogan Harris
The Los Angeles Dodgers are locked, loaded, and ready to make a run with the Oakland Athletics having to pay the price.
When it comes to DFS lineups today, stacking the Dodgers feels like a great choice -- as it often is. Hogan Harris isn't likely to be the one stopping them.
Harris hasn't been all too good this season, and the same can be said for the A's as a whole. The rookie starter has a 6.07 ERA and 4.53 FIP through 12 games and 5 starts this year. In two of his last three starts, he's allowed five runs or more. It should be a pretty good night for Los Angeles.
If you're looking for someone to start off your three-to-four-player stack, don't get it twisted. This can be an easy game once in a while, so roll with Mookie Betts ($4,200). On the season, the Dodgers outfielder has a .289 ISO, 155 wRC+, and 28 HRs -- the third-most in his career.
Betts has the highest projected total of the day, per numberFire, at 15.5 FanDuel points, and he should be the first addition to stacks.
Another guy to lead your team is Freddie Freeman ($4,300), who is also always a great choice. Freeman has a .418 wOBA, 21 HRs, and 74 RBIs as a key part of the Dodgers' lineup. With both Freeman and Betts being at the top of the lineups, you'll want to consider either, as they have the best chance at getting a lot of at-bats.
Other options from the Dodgers' lineup include Max Muncy ($4,000), J.D. Martinez ($3,600), Will Smith ($3,500), Amed Rosario ($2,900), and Chris Taylor ($2,800).
New York Mets
Implied Total: 5.37 | Opposing Pitcher: Cole Ragans
For the second straight day, you should be stacking the New York Mets.
The top of the lineup for New York came through yesterday as the Mets scored six runs in their 7-6 loss to the Kansas City Royals.
The Royals will run out Cole Ragans tonight, and the second-year pitcher will be making just his second start of the season. In his first outing, he went five innings while only giving up one run, but his full season doesn't reflect that same success. Ragans is wearing a 5.22 ERA and a 4.77 SIERA, nothing all that exciting by any stretch.
The Mets' 5.12 implied team total is the third-best of the day, and you should be taking advantage of that by starting off your stack with Pete Alonso ($4,200). Alonso launched a home run against the Royals last night and has been all season with 31. Power equals points, and Alonso has plenty of that. He's projected for 13.7 FanDuel points.
Much of the Mets' projected lineup is showing reasonable value at their salaries, too. Consider pairing Alonso with any of Francisco Lindor ($3,800), Brandon Nimmo ($3,300), Francisco Alvarez ($3,200), and Brett Baty ($2,700).
It should be another good offensive night for the Mets -- win or lose.
Chicago Cubs
Implied Total: 5.29 | Opposing Pitcher: Brandon Williamson
Twenty runs. The Chicago Cubs just scored 20 runs. So, yeah, they should probably be considered for stack today with another tasty matchup.
Chicago exploded in the box score last night. Everyone had a hit on the night, and they totaled seven home runs also. Pretty good, we'd say. And now, they'll look to do the same against rookie hurler Brandon Williamson.
Williamson has an ugly 5.26 SIERA and a low 17.8% strikeout rate while also having a 44.3% fly-ball percentage. Big flies and more could be in the future of the Cubs again.
Cody Bellinger ($3,700) should be the first in lineups if you're considering this stack.
He was 3-for-6 with a home run and 3 RBIs in the win yesterday and has in many ways returned to the MVP form the Dodgers once appreciated a few years ago. He has a 142 wRC+ and .383 wOBA -- his bests since that 2019 MVP year.
Out of all hitters today, numberFire's model has Bellinger projected for the second most points at 15.2.
If you plan to fill out the rest of your DFS lineups with a Cubs stack then Christopher Morel ($4,100), Nico Hoerner ($3,300), Ian Happ ($3,200), Dansby Swanson ($3,200), andSeiya Suzuki ($2,800) are all worthy of consideration.
