3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Tuesday 8/22/23
Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.
This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.
The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out numberFire's daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.
Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.
Atlanta Braves
Implied Total: 6.19 | Opposing Pitcher: Tylor Megill
Another day, another Atlanta Braves stack to take advantage of in your DFS lineups because the most potent lineup cannot be stopped.
The Braves will get an opportunity to put up a big number on the scoreboard yet again as they take on the New York Mets and their starter Tylor Megill.
Megill hasn't been all too good through 86 1/3 innings as he has an ugly 5.32 SIERA and 5.14 FIP. He's actually overperforming with his 5.53 ERA because he has a 6.34 xERA which should say all you need to know when it comes to rocking with the Braves lineup. Oh, and Megill isn't striking too many batters out with just a 17.4% rate so there's no reason to believe this will be anything but a great night for Atlanta.
Fire up Ronald Acuna ($4,800) as your top guy to lead off any Braves stack as you likely have been all season long. Acuna's ISO is up to a .207 clip in August (.235 overall on the season). Also on the season, Acuna has put up a .419 wOBA, 28 home runs, 74 RBIs, and 56 stolen bases. It doesn't get much better than this when it comes to a guy doing everything on the diamond. He's one of the best in the world. numberFire has Acuna projected for the most points on the day with 16.8 FanDuel points.
Other players to consider from the Braves lineup are the usual studs. Austin Riley ($3,900) has the second-highest projected total of any Braves hitter. Understandably so as he's been otherworldly in the second half. Through 35 games, he has 13 home runs and a .414 wOBA. He's seeing the baseball as well as anyone right now.
Slot in any of Matt Olson ($4,300), Sean Murphy ($3,900), Marcell Ozuna ($3,000), Eddie Rosario ($2,800) to fill out your lineup. It's going to be a good day for the Braves. Seeing the pricey points the top of their lineup features, Rosario could be a good option as he's hit from No. 2 or 6 over the past week.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Implied Total: 5.25 | Opposing Pitcher: Noah Syndergaard
The Los Angeles Dodgers will take on their former teammate Noah Syndergaard today with the goal of making him pay.
Syndergaard's fall from grace hasn't been all too good. The former All-Star is simply a shell of himself. The 6.57 ERA probably should speak for itself but to go beyond that, a hurler who used to have a 25+% strikeout rate is all the way down to 14.3% this season. Brutal. The one-time flamethrower is now averaging 92.6 MPH on his sinker... that's not going to cut it.
The Dodgers know him perfectly after he spent the first half of the season there so it shouldn't come as too much of a shock that this should be a huge day for them at the plate.
Mookie Betts ($4,500) comes in as your top hitter on the day for the Dodgers. Betts has a .414 wOBA and .298 ISO on the season as he's been having his best year since he won the American League MVP in 2018. The former MVP is projected for 15.2 FanDuel points per numberFire.
Chris Taylor ($2,600) slots in as a good value for the Dodgers stack as the utility man is projected for 12.0 FanDuel points today.
Elsewhere in the Dodgers lineup, you should consider Freddie Freeman ($4,300), Will Smith ($3,500), Max Muncy ($3,500), James Outman ($2,900), and David Peralta ($2,600).
Pittsburgh Pirates
Implied Total: 5.03 | Opposing Pitcher: Adam Wainwright
Your final lineup stack worth considering today is... the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Another year of difficulty for the Pirates as they sit at 56-69 on the season while already looking forward to next year. That doesn't mean they still can't mash. They'll be taking on their fellow struggling National League Central team the St. Louis Cardinals and their starter Adam Wainwright.
Wainwright has made 16 starts this season and in those starts, he's allowed three or more runs 14 times. Not ideal for him or the Cardinals but it's great news for the Pirates. Whether it is Wainwright's 5.76 SIERA, 11.5% strikeout rate, or 4.9% swinging strike rate, there's not much to be afraid of here and it should mean liftoff for Pittsburgh.
The top bat you'll want from the Buccos is Bryan Reynolds ($3,600). The Pirates outfielder has 18 home runs and 60 RBIs on the season to go along with his respectable .199 ISO and 114 wRC+. His wOBA is up to an excellent .403 so he's seeing the ball well right now.
Jack Suwinski ($3,000) is another intriguing option. The best part of Suwinski is you know what to expect. He is going to strike out his fair share (34.0% strikeout rate) but he's got an all-or-nothing type mindset with 21 home runs on the season. He's got a .238 ISO on the season also.
If you do go in on a Pirates stack, Andrew McCutchen ($3,000), Ke'Bryan Hayes ($3,000), Ji-hwan Bae ($2,800), and Liover Peguero ($2,700) are all suitable plays for tonight's slate.
