3 Daily Fantasy Baseball Stacks for Monday 9/11/23

Stacking is an integral part of daily fantasy baseball. Correlation drives upside, giving your lineups a slate-winning ceiling when your stacks explode.

This piece will do the digging and the dirty work each day to determine which stacks are worth rostering on FanDuel's main slate. While we want upside, we also need to factor in game theory, especially in a sport as random as baseball.

The MLB DFS heat map at numberFire is a quick way to get a feel for the overall slate and which offenses are in a good spot. You can also check out numberFire's daily fantasy baseball projections to identify the slate's best bats.

Today is a Coors Field day between the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs, so while you should of course look at those lineups, we will focus on three other teams since we don't need to tell you what you already know there.

Let's look at the top stacks for today's main slate.

Los Angeles Dodgers

Implied Total: 5.24 | Opposing Pitcher: Pedro Avila (RHP)

The Los Angeles Dodgers have been on a tear over their last four games, scoring at least six runs in each. That should keep up tonight as they take on the San Diego Padres and their starter, Pedro Avila.

Avila has had a rather good season -- unless he's starting. On the year through 10 appearances, Avila has a 2.19 ERA and 3.34 FIP. The 4.13 SIERA shows that he's really been outperforming where he's expected to be. However, when he's starting, it's been much different. In two of his last three starts, he's allowed at least five runs. With how good the Dodgers are going right now, that could spell trouble for him.

Mookie Betts ($4,400) was able to shake off his foot injury and return to the lineup yesterday for Los Angeles, meaning that we should be able to expect him in there again tonight. The second half of the season has been kind to Betts with 12 home runs, 37 RBIs, and a .466 wOBA. He's projected for 14.4 FanDuel points tonight, per numberFire.

Max Muncy ($3,400) will offer some lineup value with the chance to provide some pop to the lineup; his 34 home runs, 96 RBIs, and .282 ISO are some of the highest you'll find on today's main slate.

As always with Los Angeles, you can close out any stack of theirs with Freddie Freeman ($4,200), Will Smith ($3,400), Chris Taylor ($3,000), or James Outman ($2,800).

Houston Astros

Implied Total: 5.20 | Opposing Pitcher: Mason Miller (RHP)

A matchup against the Oakland Athletics? It's hard to pass that up -- especially when you're the Houston Astros holding the third-best implied total of the day.

The pitcher on the bump for the A's will be their rookie Mason Miller. Miller has impressed in his short time (23 1/3 innings) in the bigs, earning a 27.5% strikeout rate, a 3.09 ERA, and a 2.83 FIP. His 4.15 SIERA he has in the short period does illustrate that he's arguably benefitted from good fortune and delivering on the field more than expected. However, a lineup like Houston's can make those underlying numbers a reality.

To start, Yordan Alvarez ($4,100) is back to being one of baseball's best hitters after some injury woes earlier this year. His last five games alone have been outstanding, posting three home runs with nine hits and eight RBIs. He's doing absolutely everything for the Astros, and that makes him a dangerously good play for DFS lineups tonight against Miller.

Kyle Tucker ($3,500) may be one of baseball's most underappreciated stars when it comes to getting the praise, but he continues to march to the beat of his own drum on the field. Yesterday was a crazy outing for him; he finished with two triples and two stolen bases -- really highlighting how good he is at all facets of the game. Tucker has a .403 wOBA in the second half and should be one of the best players on the night. numberFire's model has him projected for 13.3 FanDuel points.

Jose Altuve ($4,200), Alex Bregman ($3,600), Chas McCormick ($3,500), and Jeremy Pena ($2,700) are all fine plays on tonight's slate from the talented Astros lineup.

Boston Red Sox

Implied Total: 4.93 | Opposing Pitcher: Clarke Schmidt (RHP)

The Boston Red Sox have mostly accepted their fate this year, sitting six games out of a playoff spot, but this upcoming series with the New York Yankees will be one that they want to win. These two are competing to see who will finish in last place in the American League East.

New York will send out Clarke Schmidt. Schmidt hasn't been all too amazing since taking over as a starter this year. His 4.54 ERA through 28 starts should tell you all you need to know about his season. His mediocre 22.8% strikeout rate also won't strike fear into the Red Sox hitters, either. Schmidt has given up at least three runs and five hits in his last pair of outings.

As it often goes with Boston, Rafael Devers ($3,900) will be the one you want in your lineups for any Red Sox stack. Devers has destroyed the ball in the second half to the tune of a .382 wOBA and 138 wRC through 48 games. He's driven in a run in his last two games. Despite having 29 home runs on the season, he's been in a bit of a dry spell with gopher balls, meaning he's due to go yard oon.

Going with veterans like Justin Turner ($3,500) and Alex Verdugo ($3,300) makes sense as the second part of a Red Sox stack while adding a third (or fourth) bat with Masataka Yoshida ($3,400) or Triston Casas ($3,200).
