College Basketball Prop Bets

VCU at Saint Louis

Max Shulga 3+ Made Threes (+116)

VCU and Sant Louis square off in this week's "FridA10" action, setting up Rams guard Max Shulga for another big road performance. The senior's points prop is set at 14.5 on FanDuel Sportsbook, but I'm more interested in Max Shulga 3+ Made Threes at +116 odds.

Shulga averages 14.5 points and 2.4 made threes per game, shooting 40% from beyond the arc. He's nailed at leas three tripes in 10 of 24 games overall and in four of 11 conference matchups. That said, he's consistently hoisted up a lot of shots from deep of late, attempting 6.0 threes per game over his last five.

That should lead to a big night from distance against Saint Louis. Through 11 A-10 games, the Billikens boast the third-worst defensive rating in the conference. They've given up an average of 80.2 points and 9.5 threes per game, allowing league opponents to shoot 36% from beyond the arc.

On top of that, Saint Louis has given up the most three-point attempts (26.6 per game) in conference play.

That sets up well for Shulga despite him coming off his worst game of the season. Shulga managed just two points in VCU's win over Dayton, finishing 0 for 5 from beyond the arc. He was (and still is) dealing with a shoulder injury stemming from their February 6th win over Fordham but still totaled 30 minutes against the Flyers. He put up three shots from beyond the arc in that one, and considering it's his non-shooting shoulder, we shouldn't expect too big of an impact after a week off.

Given how well he's played on the road, Shulga is well-positioned to bounce back tonight. In five true road games, Shulga has averaged 16.4 points and 3.4 made threes per game. He's shooting a blistering 53% from three on the road, attempting 6.4 trifecta per game.

While he made just 1 of 4 threes in the Rams' earlier win over SLU, Shulga is too good of a shooter to stay quiet for long. With VCU facing one of the worst defenses in the conference, I'll take Max Shulga 3+ Made Threes.

He's proven capable of having monster nights from deep, so I also have some interest in Max Shulga 4+ Made Threes (+290). Shulga's hit that mark six times this season, including in two of his last three road games.

Villanova at Georgetown

Eric Dixon Over 16.5 Points (-105)

The 2023-24 season hasn't gone according to plan for the 13-11 Villanova Wildcats, but that hasn't stopped senior Eric Dixon from having a big year. The 6'8" forward leads the team with 15.8 points per game, and he's in a good spot to go over 16.5 points in tonight's bout with Georgetown.

Dixon has reached 17 points eight times this season, most recently dropping 18 in Nova's win over Seton Hall. He's really turned on the scoring of late, averaging 19.0 points per game over their last five. That includes 24- and 28-point outings against Marquette and Butler to close out January.

The senior is a well-balanced scorer who gets 40% of buckets shots at the rim and 36% from three, per Bart Torvik. He's shooting 63% at the rim this season and could feast against a Georgetown D that struggles to defend the interior.

Opponents have scored 40% of their baskets at the rim against the Hoyas, the 11th-highest rate among 94 high-major teams. Georgetown has given up the third-highest at-rim field goal percentage (66%) among high-majors. That's something Dixon can take full advantage of.

Neither team plays at a particularly fast pace, but Villanova does have a 75.0-point implied total, more than three points higher than their Big East scoring average.

I'm in on Dixon going over 16.5 points, but there's something to be said about diving into some of his alternate lines, too. Among the eight games in which he has exceeded 17 points, he's gotten up to 20 points six times. Given Georgetown's soft interior defense, Eric Dixon to Score 20+ Points (+194) is appealing.

The Wildcats are a considerable favorite. While Nova -9.5 is among today's best college basketball bets, FanDuel also offers Villanova to Win and Eric Dixon to Score 15+ at -125 odds.

New Mexico at San Diego State

Jaedon LeDee Over 7.5 Rebounds (-122)

San Diego State big man Jaedon LeDee is averaging 8.5 rebounds per game this season, so I'll close things out by taking him over 7.5 rebounds against New Mexico tonight.

LeDee has snagged at least eight boards in 12 of 24 games overall, though he's been held under that mark in back-to-back games.

Still, he's been highly active in home matchups, averaging 8.2 rebounds per game at Viejas Arena.

LeDee failed to reach this mark when San Diego State last faced New Mexico, but the Aztecs struggled as a whole. In that 18-point loss, the Aztecs were outrebounded by 10. That was just the third time in 12 conference games that San Diego State lost the rebounding battle, and it was their worst rebound differential in league play.

San Diego State (+190) and New Mexico (+420) have the second and third shortest odds to win the Mountain West regular-season title, so I'm expecting a more concentrated rebounding effort the Aztecs.

While New Mexico dominated the glass in the previous matchup, they've given up more than their fair share of boards this season. Despite ranking fourth in the Mountain West in total rebound rate, the Lobos have surrendered 31.9 rebounds per game in conference play, third-most among MWC squads. In 12 conference games, 11 different players have reached 8 rebounds against them.

LeDee is among the top rebounders in the country, and I'm expecting him to clean up the glass in a primetime Mountain West matchup. Consider him to go over 7.5 rebounds.
