Wells Fargo Championship: Daily Fantasy Picks and Helper

Following Taylor Pendrith’s first career victory at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson on Sunday, the PGA Tour heads to the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the Wells Fargo Championship -- the sixth signature event of the season.

Of note, Scottie Scheffler -- who has won four of his last five events -- is not in the field this week.

Ludvig Aberg withdrew on Monday as a precaution due to lingering knee soreness.

Here's all you need to know for PGA DFS on FanDuel for this week’s signature event, which does not include a cut.

Wells Fargo Championship DFS Top Plays

These picks stand out relative to their FanDuel daily fantasy golf salary. All stats cited below originate at datagolf and reference ranks relative to the field over the past 50 rounds unless otherwise noted. All betting odds come from the golf betting odds at FanDuel Sportsbook.

Wells Fargo Championship Daily Fantasy Studs

Rory McIlroy ($12,300 | +650)

Strokes gained: off the tee is important this week, with a focus on distance. At 7,558 yards, Quail Hollow is playing longer this week than it did when it hosted the 2017 PGA Championship (7,488 yards). At this week's length, it is the fourth-longest course in datagolf's course table and the second-longest Par 71.

When looking for distance, there is no one better than Rory McIlroy, who enters this week coming off a team victory with Shane Lowry at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. McIlroy is first in the field in driving distance this week and strokes gained: off the tee. He is sixth in strokes gained: tee to green and fourth in total strokes gained. He is 43rd on Tour in Par 5 Birdie or Better rate (52.68%).

McIlroy also has fantastic course history here. In his 12 career appearances, he has nine top 10s, including three wins (2010, 2015, 2021).

Xander Schauffele ($12,100 | +900)

With Scottie Scheffler not in the field, Xander Schauffele enters the week ranked first in total strokes gained. Schauffele's remarkable consistency continues to be overshadowed by his lack of victories, but he has been playing some fantastic golf. He has seven top 10s and four top 5s in 11 starts this season. He is the only golfer in the field who ranks inside the top five in every strokes gained category.

His strokes gained: off the tee have been trending in the wrong direction over his last five events - from +1.13 (Arnold Palmer Invitational) to +0.19 (RBC Heritage) - but he is still 12th in the field in driving distance and 36th in accuracy. Schauffele also leads the tour in three-putt avoidance from >25 feet (1.74%), something that could factor in this week at Quail Hollow, which is the eight-hardest course for putts outside 15 feet.

Schauffele finished second at this event last season with a score of 15 under par -- four strokes behind winner Wyndham Clark (-19) but three strokes ahead of the next closest golfers --- Harris English and Tyrrell Hatton (-12).

  • Sahith Theegala ($10,500 | +2800))
  • Justin Thomas ($10,400 | +2500)
  • Matt Fitzpatrick ($10,300 | +3500)
  • Cameron Young ($10,000 | +2500)

Wells Fargo Championship Daily Fantasy Mid-Range Plays

Tony Finau ($9,900 | +3500)

The story with Tony Finau this season remains the same -- his putting is a massive concern. He is 68th in the field in strokes gained: putting -- ahead of only Gary Woodland and Will Zalatoris. Despite his issues with the flat stick, Finau has a second-place finish and a T12 (RBC Heritage) in his last three events thanks to his excellent play from tee to green.

Finau is 16th in the field in driving distance and 49th in accuracy. He is fourth in strokes gained: tee to green and third in strokes gained: approach. He finished T23 here last season despite losing -0.53 strokes per round putting. There are only three Par 5s on the course, but they will be crucial this week. Quail Hollow's Par 3s and Par 4s rank 20th and 21st, respectively, in scoring difficulty -- the Par 5s rank 46th. With winning scores usually on the lower end, taking advantage of the Par 5s is important. Finau ranks seventh on the Tour in Par 5 Birdie or Better rate (58.55%).

Corey Conners ($9,400 | +6000)

Corey Conners has struggled on the greens -- he is 65th in strokes gained: putting -- but has putted better at this course. He gained +0.08 strokes per round in his T8 finish here last season and gained +0.58 strokes per round in his T21 finish in 2022. Conners is second in the field in strokes gained: approach, 12th in strokes gained: off the tee, and 33rd in driving distance.

An above-average number of approach shots at Quail Hollow come from 175 to 200 yards -- 24.1% last year. Conners is third on the Tour in GIR from that distance (70.69%). He is above the tour average in Birdie or Better rate on both Par 4s (17.9%) and Par 5s (50.7%).

Others to Consider:

  • Adam Scott ($9,500 | +4000)
  • Akshay Bhatia ($9,400 | +4500)
  • Byeong Hun An ($9,300 | +4000)

Wells Fargo Championship Daily Fantasy Value Plays

Adam Schenk ($8,700 | +6000)

Since his T19 finish at THE PLAYERS Championship, Adam Schenk has been in solid form with three top-13 finishes in five events, including a T12 at The Masters. Schenk has a well-rounded game -- he ranks 24th in driving distance, 32nd in accuracy, 29th in strokes gained: putting, 25th in strokes gained: around the green and 18th in strokes gained: off the tee.

His approach play -- 58th in strokes gained: approach -- is his weakness, but that has started to change. Schenk gained strokes on approach in only two of his seven events before THE PLAYERS Championship. Since then, he has gained strokes on approach in five of six events -- including at least +0.59 strokes gained per round in each of his last four. In his five appearances at this event, Schenk has missed the cut three times (2018, 2021, 2023) and finished T13 (2019) and T9 (2022).

Jake Knapp ($8,000 | +12000)

Jake Knapp is coming off an eighth-place finish at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson -- his first top-10 showing since the start of March. Since his win at the Mexico Open, Knapp has struggled at signature events, The Masters, and THE PLAYERS -- but his distance is a huge plus this week and gives him a chance to reverse that trend. He is 10th in the field in driving distance and 12th in strokes gained: approach. He is 32nd on tour this season in Birdie or Better rate on Par 5s (53.90%). His approach play is trending in the right direction entering this week, and he has gained strokes with the flat stick in each of his last two events.

Others to Consider:

  • Stephan Jaeger ($8,900 | +5500)
  • Kurt Kitayama ($8,500 | +7000)
  • Taylor Pendrith ($8,400 | +12000)
